Lessons Learned

22 Sep

I’m sure I should be quite happy about this article. I’ve said repeatedly, over the past several months, “Thank god for Barack Obama. Bad enough to make liberals finally think clearly.”

One-time Obama uber-supporter Kathleen Parker has been getting steadily more sensible in the past year, and it’s always nice to see her write things like this:

Everyone’s angry. But anger is cheap and tired. Rode hard and hung up wet, as we say down South. Most Americans are also sad. The always bountiful America seems on the edge of famine, spiritual if not literal, though the latter seems all too possible as jobs disappear and businesses close.

[I]t is probably fair to say that Obama’s ideas were too big for America’s appetite. It would have been nice had he made a few incremental repairs to the economy and left the transformative events for a less stressful time.

But this is not the way presidents operate. They want to make their mark, create a legacy, go down in history as having a made a difference.

Sad.

And yet, the pedantic part of me keeps asking “rode hard and hung up wet?” Where would you “hang up” a horse? But I’m only a transplanted Southerner, so perhaps her closets are larger than mine.

In any case, it’s good to see more Americans — and more American women, in particular — come to their senses and realize that this administration has failed. Now all we need is a competent replacement.
